Edwards Throws WingNuts Under The Bus...

The WingNuts are all a twitter about John Edwards hiring Amanda Marcotte of Pandagon and Melissa McEwan of Shakespeare's Sister as official bloggers for his Presidential Election Campaign. Edwards made the decision and announced today that he will not fire them because people who would never vote for him ( the WingNuts ) want him to. Go John... Go Amanda... Go Melissa... Never let the WingNuts get you down...

The instigator of all the uproar is a WingNut Par Excellance by the name of William Donohue who heads the Catholic League who today called Barbara Walters - House Mom To Bigots... He has had many documented bigoted, homophobe and racist remarks throughout his tenure. His interference this time in a public capmaign may even be illegal as theorized by Jeffrey Feldman/Daily Kos:

Into the picture comes the Mal-Teeth Falcon to soar to new heights of hypocrisy by echoing William Donohue's cry that foul langauge is forbiden fruit for the Dems to pick while feasting on their on hate speech and outlandish rethoric. The WingNuts of the Nest all eagerly flagellate wildly with beaks spread wide, desperate for a small regurgitance from the One On High, The Mal-Teeth Falcon (yes I invented this term - sorry skippy). She who is worshipped throughout the land from every nest of 23%ers has decreed that she will fight the evil libs til the last putred breath creeps from her craw.

Libs beware... The Mal-Teeth Falcon is on the fly...

Limpbaugh :: Peace Prize?

Somehow his name and the Nobel Peace Prize don't quite fit in the same sentence. Unless you live in the Bizarro World of Bushji The Magnificunt. After realizing this 'news' would be perfect for this page, I did a little digging to find some links.

Atrios at Eschaton has the low-down on the whole pill bottle. As we see from the Official Site of the Peace Prize ::

Nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize is by invitation only. The Nobel Committee sends confidential forms to persons who are competent and qualified to nominate. The names of the nominees and other information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.

A reader transcribed this exchange concerning habeas corpus from today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearings (no official transcript yet):

Specter: Now wait a minute, wait a minute. The Constitution says you can't take it away except in the case of invasion or rebellion. Doesn't that mean you have the right of habeas corpus?

Gonzales : I meant by that comment that the Constitution doesn't say that every individual in the United States or every citizen has or is assured the right of habeas corpus. It doesn't say that. It simply says that the right of habeas corpus shall not be suspended.

Article I, Section 9:

The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

Alberto Gonzales should not only be impeached for his willfully obtuse interpretations of the Constitution, he should be disbarred.

As President Bush marched the country to war with Iraq, even some voices on the Right warned that this was a fool's errand. I dismissed them angrily. I thought them unpatriotic.
But almost four years later, I see that I was the fool.
In Iraq, this Republican President for whom I voted twice has shamed our country with weakness and incompetence, and the consequences of his failure will be far, far worse than anything Carter did.
The fraud, the mendacity, the utter haplessness of our government's conduct of the Iraq war have been shattering to me.

It wasn't supposed to turn out like this. Not under a Republican President.
I turn 40 next month -- middle aged at last -- a time of discovering limits, finitude. I expected that. But what I did not expect was to see the limits of finitude of American power revealed so painfully.
I did not expect Vietnam.
As I sat in my office last night watching President Bush deliver his big speech, I seethed over the waste, the folly, the stupidity of this war.
I had a heretical thought for a conservative - that I have got to teach my kids that they must never, ever take Presidents and Generals at their word - that their government will send them to kill and die for noble-sounding rot - that they have to question authority.
On the walk to the parking garage, it hit me. Hadn't the hippies tried to tell my generation that? Why had we scorned them so blithely?
Will my children, too small now to understand Iraq, take me seriously when I tell them one day what powerful men, whom their father once believed in, did to this country? Heavy thoughts for someone who is still a conservative despite it all. It was a long drive home.

Spocko vs WingNuts

Thanks to firedoglake for the heads up on this... Spocko of Spocko's Brain (now defunct) took exception with the hate radio wingnuts at KSFO who were proclaiming things like liberals should be killed and other wingnutery. He started a write-in campaign to the advertisers and VISA quit running ads on their station. ABC/Disney who we all love and cherish as the givers last year's "Path To 9-11" decided to sick the legal eagles on Spocko for using audio clips (available at the Blogintegrity link below) from the station's shows as proof of their hate-speech. His use of the clips were within constraints of the fair use doctirne. That pretty well brings us up to speed. This post is in support of Spocko and all the blogs listed below who are willing to stand up to tha WingNuts...

This is really a must read for all of those, like myself that have a hard time understanding the WingNuts. O'Brien breaks it down to where even the most simple-minded of the wingnuts should be able to understand where they came from and why they are doomed to repeat history. Very omniscient words were spoken by someone last year when they said that the Republicans/WingNuts can win elections but they can not govern.

This person may have a point about Christianity, although I think a handful of people have made a sincere effort; Albert Schweitzer comes to mind. But he's wrong about American-style conservatism. It's been tried, and it failed.

Found this image from an article at the BBC that announced Rumsfeld's appointment as Sec of Def. You will notice the trademark smirk on Cheney's face... I bet in private little chats with his boy president he doesn't still have that smirk after Rummy and Bolton both have been sent packin'...

Cheney calls Rumsfeld 'finest US defence secretary'

US President George W Bush has called Mr Rumsfeld a skilled public servant and leader.

"This man knows how to lead and he did, and the country is better off for it," Mr Bush declared at Friday's ceremony.

"In every decision Don Rumsfeld made over the past six years, he always put the troops first. And the troops in the field knew it."

Mr Cheney, a long-time friend and associate of Rumsfeld, went even further with the praise.

"Donald Rumsfeld is seen as one of the architects of the unpopular war in Iraq and his legacy will be fiercely debated," he said.

"I believe the record speaks for itself - Don Rumsfeld is the finest secretary of defence this nation has ever had."

World Of WingNuts

This is a really surprising person... Very few realized how surprising he would truly turn out to be... He spawned a breed of fanatical followers much like Ronny Raygun and Tricky Dick Nixon did in their reign in the White House. It is then not unrealistic to assume that no matter what reality or his story in the history books document, they will believe til the cows come home that he is the greatest president in history. These Wingnuts absorb and then radioactively spew the propaganda and spin like it is all really true. They are quite a phenomenon in and of themselves... This page will document the Small Time Wingnuts that I have come in contact with. It will also serve as a links page to the Big Time WingNuts so that I don't have to link to them from my other blogs. It is not often that I actually want to see what they are saying but on occasion this page will be easier than using a search engine to find one of them... - fc
